Island Illustrators is an artist-led travel blog focused on exploring islands, coastal towns, and inspiring destinations through sketching, painting, and visual storytelling. We believe travel looks different when you slow down, observe closely, and create along the way.
This site was built around a simple idea: art changes how you experience a place. When you travel with a sketchbook or paint kit, you notice things most people walk right past: the curve of a shoreline, the texture of an old building, how the light shifts throughout the day. That's the perspective we're here to share.
From Illustration to travel
This blog began with a foundation in illustration and visual creativity. Over time, that focus naturally expanded into travel, not as a departure from art, but as an extension of it. Travel became another canvas.
Rather than documenting trips through checklists or packed itineraries, we approach destinations the way artists do: slowly, intentionally, with curiosity. Sketching and painting on location helps us understand places more deeply, and it shapes how we tell their stories.
